The primer is a liquid base applied before painting to prepare the area on which we are going to work. The primer paint (สีรองพื้น which is the term in Thai), primer, or sealer is a previous coating that serves as the base for the finishing paint and is applied to consolidate, equalize and facilitate the absorption of the paint on all types of surfaces, whether they are walls furniture, structural elements of the house. It is essential to apply the appropriate primer so that subsequent work on that surface has a good finish.
Why Do You Have To Use A Primer?
The primer is the product in a liquid background state that is previously applied to the paint. It offers several advantages, among which the following stand out:
Turn any surface into a solid base before giving it the desired finish.
Improves the adhesion of paint or glue and evens its absorption.
It seals and covers the pores; in this way, it is guaranteed that the final paint applied will have greater durability.
It serves as a fixative-sealer since it fixes those surfaces that are porous, dusty, are chipped, or stained.
Reduce the cost of finishing paint since a primed surface absorbs less paint, and thus you avoid having to apply many layers of final paint. Especially useful on very porous surfaces since the primer acts as a sealer and reduces paint consumption.
It guarantees a good finish and evens out the surface. The final paint will be distributed evenly by applying a primer, resulting in a flawless and long-lasting result. Also, applying a primer on a wall that was previously painted with solvent-based paint will allow you to use water-based paint on the next coat.
It effectively hides any previous colors on the wall or surface. Especially useful on surfaces where there used to be a dark or strong color, and now you want to paint in light or soft tone.
It reinforces the protection of the surface against corrosion, avoiding rust on metallic and ferrous surfaces.
On wooden surfaces, it avoids the appearance of tannins -which are the compounds that plants produce and that cause the typical dark spots in wood- .6
It is a fast-drying product. Always let it dry for the time indicated by the primer manufacturer.
It is easy to apply: it is enough to have the surface repaired -without any remains of wallpaper or any other previous coating (if any) and to fix the imperfections with putty-, clean and apply with a roller or brush as if it were a painting.
It allows the subsequent enameling, varnishing, or painting of the surface.
